First day in MI
Audrey’s parents have this piece of my work framed in their house. I had forgotten all about it:
I also found this picture while working on the site today. I drew it years ago when I used to sleep on Audrey’s couch all the time. In the morning we watched TV in our pajamas.

In the spring I had been seeing a lot of tree stumps everywhere, and I was dying to make something out of them. I knew the best person to call would be my friend Jon May – we went to school together and he is the most amazing woodworker. I thought we would have to drive to the country and search wood, but it just so happened that a cherry tree had just fallen down in his backyard (what could be more serendipitous?). I brought my idea, and Jon provided the tools, know-how, and in-house woodshop:

Chicago
Randy and I just travelled to Chicago for the week to visit his friends Tony and Agnes, and their friends Brendan and Lincoln and Courtney. And also by extension Audrey. And also Matt and Britney and Josh and Jess. Lots of good people. Not a lot of time to practice drawing with all that socializing and recovering-from-socializing, but I did a few lil thangs.
Nothing too exciting, but ya know. I’m sad we missed the SkyDeck, but would I actually have walked on it? Probably not. I’ve… Read on →
Shoes: An Intro to the World of Drawing
(I thought it would be funny to draw Randy’s boots, since the first day of every art class EVER (as far as I can remember back to 3rd or 4th grade) is spent drawing shoes. I quickly remembered how deathly boring this is and switched to drawing Randy while he read instead. Then Benadryl kicked in for the both of us and we fell asleep.)
I forgot to mention that the point of this website, and one of the goals of this Audrey Moyer/Taylor Shields Woman-made Residency, is to be creating constantly. I feel as though I have lost… Read on →
Liquid Lunch
A note on eating more vegetables:
For the past two months or so I’ve been working a lot and moving, so I haven’t bought any groceries and ate out every time I was hungry outside of work.
…ew.
I love bar food, I love greasy food, I love things that aren’t really any kind of “food”, like Flaming Hot Cheetos. But now that I’m somewhat settled and actually went to the grocery store —- VEGETABLES! ALL I WANT TO EAT IS VEGETABLES. Delicious, delicious green things. It’s not in my blood to appreciate things grown from the ground; my father… Read on →

Okay. Where to begin.
I graduated in May 2009 with a Bachelor degree in Art. After dealing with a lot of bureaucracy and (at times) idiocy for three years, I was so fed up with art I didn’t want anything to do with it for a long time. And I didn’t. Instead, I got a job. Then I got another job. Then I got another job. And then I got some freelance stuff on the side. I kept really, really busy with work. I still am.
Now it’s (almost) a year and a half later, and I realized I haven’t… Read on →
